THE BULGE IN A DAY - Tour 1
Having only one day to explore the Battle of the Bulge is tough, but here's an
itinerary with a little of everything on the Southern Shoulder: a museum, bunker,
foxholes,  a US hospital, Patton's grave, US & German cemeteries, churches,
command posts, a farm where Hemingway stayed, and a couple of battle sites.
Logistics: Leave the KMC around 0730, have
lunch in Diekirch, and return home by 1800. The
trip requires minimal walking (except at the
cemeteries) but wear shoes for muddy conditions
near the foxholes/bunkers.
Note limited museum
hours during the winter season.
Directions:  This tour starts in Luxembourg City,
goes northeast to Echternach, then follows the
Sauer River west to Diekirch. The trip back down
the river (and former German border) covers sites
in Beaufort,Berdorf, Weilerbach, Dickweiler,
Girsterklaus, and Rosport. Specific directions are
in the itinerary
