| L'Atre Fleuri - Always Our First Choice | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There are ample guesthouses, farm hotels, and chain hotels in the area. The guesthouses are inexpensive and often available without reservations. A reasonable four-day-weekend plan is to start at the Caen/Bayeux and move west toward Utah Beach. The following accommodations are personally recommended by KMC travelers: • L’Atre Fleuri: http://nighty-night.net A 100-year-old stone guesthouse in the village of Balleroy, about 15 minutes from Omaha Beach. The innkeepers are a retired Air Force couple who operate the guesthouse on a seasonal schedule – be sure to call for reservations. The website provides a view of this gorgeous place. There is no restaurant in Balleroy so plan accordingly for dinner. Romantic pre-arranged meals are sometimes available at the inn. • “Aiguilleres” is a nice B&B also in Balleroy. The friendly couple don’t speak English but understand enough to make reservations. Their phone is (02) 31-21-9299. The proprietor of L’Atre Fleuri sends overflow guests to this B&B. • Hotel Du Casino, on Omaha Beach: This historic structure is right on Omaha Beach at the Vierville su Mer exit, about 5 kms off N-13. Many rooms directly overlook the Dog Green segment; several WWII vets wouldn’t stay anywhere else. The price is slightly higher than a guesthouse but the location and view are tops. Phone 02 31 22 41 02. The restaurant serves excellent meals and serves as a gathering place for serious DDay tourists. The best way to check it out online is google "Hotel de Casino" + Vierville, as they don't seem to have a web site. • “Le Requet” at http://chez.com/lasapiniere This hotel is located very near Omaha Beach area and is recommended by an American who grew up in the area. The website shows photos and gives more information. Phone is (02) 31927172, • Ferme De La Fiere: A farm guesthouse in St. Mere E’Glise, phone 33-41-3177. This hotel is near Utah Beach, 3 kms from St. Mere Eglise on the D15. The farm is on the left just before the Le Merderet Bridge. This place was occupied by 101st Airborne (the “Band of Brothers”) just after D-Day and is described as inexpensive, and very American-friendly. • “Le Grand Hard”: A very nice farm hotel in the Utah Beach area, near St. Marie du Mont. Phone (02) 33-71-25-74. |
