The Pirmasens Loop Bunker Tour
From  Ramstein/Landstuhl, follow A62 direction Pirmasen and exit toward Pirmasens on Highway 10.  Follow signs to the city centrum, turning right on Rodalbertstrasse, and then left on Alleestrasse.  A few blocks later and shortly after a 90 curve to the right, continue off right on L484 toward “Bitche”. There is a sign for the “Westwall Museum” in downtown Pirmasens but it’s easy to miss. Don't worry, Pirmasens isn't so big that you can't turn around and start over!

Drive 3 km out of Pirmasens and watch for the white onion-domed church in the first village, Niedersimten. Turn left directly past the church ( sign marks the turn) and the bunker entrance is visible in the hillside.

Drive back toward Pirmasens, following signs to A62 direction Kaiserslautern or Landstuhl.  Exit at Thaleischweiler just before crossing the bridge (about 10 km from Pirmasens) and turn toward Thaleischweiler. Stay on the priority road (right fork) through town on L477; don't turn onto Pirmasenstrasse at a confusing intersection in town. Continue about 1 kilometer out of town past the turns onto L475 and L476. About 400 meters past the intersection is an marked gravel road to the right. The bunker is about 100 meters up the road - watch for a turnout on the right and the bunker is directly on the left.

For family members bored with WWII, stop past the Steinenschloss castle ruins adjacent to the autobahn bridge at the Thaleischweiler exit. As you come off the autobahn and turn left, immediately look for a turn off on the right with several gravel roads. Double back parallel to the road and follow the small sign to Steinenschloss. The castle is at the top of the hill, and has English signs.
